Please help! My corn snake bit me!?

So the other day my snake had just arrived from being shipped from CO. The guy told me not to mess with it for about a week, I put the box it was in into the cage and as soon as it came out it bit me! now it didn't hurt (at all) but it was scary. And another thing is It's wayyy smaller than I thought it would be, it's a baby (not even a year) and its sooo small. Is there a certain way to tame it? I know not to mess with it for a while to let it get used to its new home, but after that how do I tame it if it won't let me anywhere near it? Plus its so tiny I'm afraid of hurting it?
